PassiveLogic has appointed Joel Harvill as chief financial officer, adding a veteran capital markets and corporate finance leader as the company scales its technology for autonomous buildings.
Harvill brings nearly two decades of experience across private credit, treasury, fundraising and corporate finance. Over his career, he has worked on more than $15 billion in transactions, according to the company.
He previously held finance leadership roles at Rivian, Waymo and Botrista. Earlier roles included positions with AIG Investments, BNP Paribas, CIT Group and GE Capital.
At PassiveLogic, Harvill will oversee financial strategy and operations as the company seeks broader adoption of its software platform, which uses AI to automate building systems such as heating, cooling and energy management.
CEO and co-founder Troy Harvey said Harvill’s experience building financial foundations at high-growth companies will be important for the company’s next stage.
“Joel is a powerful addition to the PassiveLogic leadership team,” Harvey said.
The hire comes as investors continue to back climate-tech and industrial AI companies focused on improving efficiency in large physical assets. Buildings account for a significant share of global energy consumption, creating a large market opportunity for software that can reduce waste, lower emissions and extend equipment life.
Unlike consumer AI applications, companies such as PassiveLogic are targeting operational use cases where customers may see direct savings through lower utility bills and maintenance costs. That can make adoption decisions more measurable, though sales cycles in commercial real estate and infrastructure markets are often slower.
Adding a CFO with fundraising and capital structure experience may also signal preparation for future financing activity as the company grows. Capital-intensive enterprise software businesses serving physical infrastructure often require substantial investment in product development, deployment and market expansion.
PassiveLogic is part of a broader wave of startups applying AI to the built environment, where aging building control systems and rising energy costs have created demand for modernization tools.
